Bernie Sanders: The Modern FDR

Franklin D. Roosevelt, from wherever you are standing, is historically considered one of the best presidents the US ever had. He was so good in fact, that they let him have more than two terms as president. FDR was often described as a socialist due to his ideas, and Russia themselves called him the first communist president of the US. Let's look at how Bernie compares to this great leader who led America to amazing prosperity.

FDR is known for the New Deal and the Second New Deal. This led to an end to the Great Depression and the creation of many things we hold dear today, such as Social Security. The Second New Deal and Social Security had some more conservative thinkers comparing FDR to Karl Marx and even Lenin.

The moral of the story? What he did was right and Bernie is trying to do things the modern version of FDR would. If a bank is too big to fail, is is too big to exist. Both FDR and Bernie agree. America shouldn't directly get involved in wars oversea, and instead give their support through supplies and the whatnot. Both agree. In fact, FDR supplying Europe with what they needed throughout the second world war made European countries owe money to the US well into the 1990's.

They both believe the middle and lower class need to be supported more than the upper class.

Under FDR the US economy left the Great Depression and many of his changes were the backbone of the US all through the remainder of the 20th century.

FDR himself never openly called himself a Democratic Socialist, and there are factors that are different between Bernie and him, but overall there are many connections, and they're all good ones.

People try and say Bernie can't win, but he's trying to bring the change America so desperately needs. The US gave FDR more chances to do good than any other president ever, let's give Bernie at least a normal chance.
