On June 5th, the people of Puerto Rico get to vote in the Democratic primary and decide if they support Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton for President. Their vote will matter, will they vote for Hillary Clinton, a longtime supporter of Wall Street, or Bernie Sanders, the man fighting the people who brought their island to ruins?
Hillary Clinton claims that she wants to give Puerto Rico it's "fair shot", but how can someone who supports Wall Street, who profits off of destroying Puerto Rico's economy, support Puerto Rico. In this case, Hillary can't do both.
Bernie Sanders has now visited Puerto Rico and spoke in support for Puerto Rico, and it was groundbreaking. He called for the Federal Reserve to pull from their emergency funds to restructure Puerto Rico's debt.
Puerto Rico has been through a lot, and Wall Street hasn't been friendly. As Sanders said, "What vulture funds on Wall Street are demanding is that Puerto Rico fire teachers, close schools, cut pensions and abolish the minimum wage so that they can reap huge profits off the suffering and misery of the children and the people of Puerto Rico".
Basically, it's time we realize that we must stand up for Puerto Rico. Wall Street has been hitting them hard, caring only about their greed and not the suffering of the people. At this point, the greed has gone too far.
The people living on the mainland can claim that Puerto Rico doesn't affect them, but these people are US citizens. We cannot allow a US territory to have a children poverty rate of 57%. It is simply unacceptable and an embarrassment to our nation.
So, let's stand up, and fight for our fellow Americans. Bernie Sanders, not Hillary Clinton, can help lead Puerto Rico out of it's crippling debt. Let's get Puerto Rico out of debt, get it out of poverty, let's bail out the people for once, not Wall Street.
