Is Jill Stein Our Best Option?

Bernie is pretty much out, and at the moment we don't know what he's going to do next. Obama has endorsed Hillary Clinton and the Republican nominee is Donald Trump. It's getting dark, and it seems that the only progressive in the general election is going to be Jill Stein.

So, first things first, who in the world is Jill Stein? When the primaries were still running hard and strong, I remember hearing her name and seeing a tweet or two but I never really cared to notice her. Then as the primaries began coming to an end and it looked more and more likely that Hillary was going to win, I started hearing her name from other Bernie supporters.

Finally, I decided to do my research on the 3rd party candidate. I learned soon she was part of the Green Party and had even run in 2012. At that time, she received the most votes of any women who ever ran for President in the general election.

I also learned she had been arrested twice. She was arrested once for trying enter a debate in Hofstra University and arrested later for bringing provisions for people who were protesting the XL Keystone Pipeline.

After doing more and more research on her and her stance, she began to look more and more like Bernie Sanders. Hands down, Jill Stein is a progressive.

She is very environmentally friendly and wants to introduce a "Green New Deal", as she calls it. Her goal is to create new jobs by transitioning to 100% clean energy by 2030!

Like Bernie, she also believes in Medicare for all and tuition-free public colleges.

On social matters she also stands in a very progressive manners and wants more rights for women and to end injustice against people of color in America.

If I'm going to be honest, Jill Stein just seems like a nice person already.

Look, people are scared. Donald Trump being president is a horrifying thing, Hillary Clinton being president isn't exactly a pleasant thought to many, and many people think that voting 3rd party will just take votes away from Hillary and guarantee a Trump presidency. Here's the thing though, if the majority of Bernie supporters take their fire for a political revolution to Stein, things might just look up. Many Democrats and Independents would support Stein, and that might actually make it possible for a 3rd party candidate to win!

It's not going to be easy to win for Jill Stein, nothing about electing a progressive President has been easy, but maybe it's worth a try? So, Jill Stein 2016? Maybe.

  1. I'm a Green. I wish they would have to give equal tv time to each of the party leaders when it gets toward the end. The media has way too much say so in who wins by the way they cover and the amount of time. She was trying so hard last time to get heard. I understand not giving every single party equal time. In Some Counties it's crazy, because there are just too many. But 4 is a good even number that gives people more options, education on the issues and opportunists to make an educated decision. This year is just rediculous. It gets to where other parties are forced to vote for the next worst thing to keep the worst out.
